Kim Kardashian Condemns ICE Raids in Passionate Defense of Immigrants

kim Kardashian, the reality TV star and business mogul, has condemned Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raids and defended immigrant communities in her hometown of Los Angeles.

"There HAS to be a BETTER way," the 44-year-old wrote in a post to her Instagram story.

Newsweek has reached out to a representative for Kardashian outside of regular working hours via email for comment.

Why It Matters

On Friday, protests broke out in parts of Los Angeles in response to numerous ICE raids throughout the California city, which has long been a flashpoint for debates over immigration policy. ICE has stepped up raids across the country as part of the Trump administration's pledge to carry out the largest mass deportations in the nation's history.


What To Know

"We're told that ICE exist to keep our country safe and remove violent criminals," Kardashian wrote to her 356 million Instagram followers.

"But when we witness innocent, hardworking people being ripped from their families in inhumane ways, we have to speak up."

Kardashian began pursuing a career in law in 2019, and has worked on criminal justice reform and clemency cases and has become a prominent 

In her message to her Instagram followers, she defended immigrant communities, writing "Growing up in LA, I've seen how deeply immigrants are woven into the fabric of this city."

"No matter where you fall politically, it's clear that our communities thrive because of the contributions of immigrants," she wrote.

Kim Kardashian is the daughter of Robert Kardashian, the lawyer who rose to fame for his role in the OJ Simpson murder case. The Kardashian family is originally Armenian, specifically Armenian Spiritual Christians from Kars Oblast.
